Drone Development
A modular quadcopter platform for testing flight algorithms, high-level commands and camera-based AI control.
Goal
Build a modular drone platform and add AI-based control so it can handle varied autonomous tasks: automation, inspection and interactive tech demos.
The build
- 500 mm F450-style frame with carbon-fibre landing gear. The arm design is based on the DJI S800 EVO, modified.
- Pixhawk PX4 2.4.8 flight controller (STM32F427, NuttX RTOS) with gyro, accelerometer/magnetometer, IMU and barometer.
- GoPro Hero 3 on a 2-axis brushless gimbal for FPV.
Planned
- Predefined manoeuvres such as flips.
- A vision system that recognises hand gestures, faces and objects for interactive control.
- Real-time decision-making, better stabilisation and optimised flight paths, with room to add new AI models and control algorithms.
